Once Upon A Poolside is a lushly decorative publication styled on a Victorian story book.  Edited by artist Bev Pike, the articles in this issue of Poolside approach media arts criticism through narrative devices and the subjective voice.  Pike explains, “I wanted to focus on the ways today’s media artists tell stories.  The book itself reads like a video – you can pause the story to check out the marginalia, or you can fast-forward to the close-ups.”

This hand-sized book features tales about dream-time, political wanderlust, ghostly hauntings, visceral responses, womanliness, Videon Cable TV, virtual relationships and interactive audio art.  Writers are: artists Erika MacPherson and Roewan Crowe, film professor Brenda Austin-Smith, curators Mary Reid and Amy Karlinsky, filmmaker Jeff McKay, performance artist Courtney Siebring, and sound art aficionado Deanna Radford.  Cover art is by Video Pool artist Brenna George.  The designer was Corrine Kennedy under the art direction of Zab Design and Typography.
