JUST CHOPPIN' - An Intro to Final Cut Pro

Slice and dice your way through this introductory course on the industry standard in editing. During the 12hrs of fun filled instruction and hands-on learning, participants will develop a working knowledge of FCP software and be ready to edit videos and films of their own.
Instructor - Heidi Phillips is an experimental filmmaker based in Winnipeg. She completed her MFA from Transart Institute Austria in August of 2008. Her next exhibition, Revival, is both a dream and a nightmare and shows at aceartinc. in Winnipeg, in 2009.

Construct Freestyle SoundKits – wearable sound pieces prototyped by the artist – that generate and broadcast electronic beats as users move through the urban environment. Participants will follow up the session by performing live sonic and movement-based interventions in the public spaces of the Exchange District.
Instructor - Jessica Thompson is a new media artist whose practice encompasses sound, performance, and mobile technologies. Her projects enable audience members to create user-defined spaces and situations within urban environments. www.jessicathompson.ca

EXPERIDOC - Documentary for the Avant-Garde

Over the course of this 4-week, studio-based workshop, participants will create their own short films. Viewing various examples of documentary cinema and using them as a leaping point into their own unique projects, individuals will explore innovative methods of creating art-driven documentaries. (Fee includes: miniDV tape, camera rental & 3hrs studio time!)
Instructor - Cam Woykin is a Calgary born avant-garde filmmaker with existential queries. Woykin currently resides in Winnipeg where he maintains his practice as an independent artist, filmmaker, and writer. PS - He's also Video Pool's Education Coordinator.

The Oddball Antenna: DIY Inputs for Physical Computing

The Oddball Antenna is a hands-on introduction to physical computing that focuses on alternative methods of feeding your computer external information. Participants will use old things, broken stuff, high fives and the ether to construct experimental sensors and switches that will be used to control digital media. This workshop includes a presentation about the Arduino board and its life as a piece of open hardware.
Instructor - Th3 L∆N P∆rTy (Darsha Hewitt and Alexandre Quessy) is a collective from Montreal Canada that produces artwork based on collaboratively developed technology and experimental electronics. They teach workshops on versatile technology and assist communities new to open source practices by setting them up with tools to establish Do-It-Yourself electronics groups.

This is a studio based course intended for individuals with questions regarding works in progress or those interested in exploring additional FCP applications.
Instructor - Over the last few years, Jaimz Asmundson has produced a frenzy of work that has traveled to film festivals worldwide. Subversive content, camp humour and over-the-top aesthetic have become Asmundson’s hallmark. He has been called “Winnipeg’s enfant terrible of transgressive cinema”. Jaimz is currently the President of the Winnipeg Film Group and part of the Winnipeg curatorial collective, WNDX, A festival of avant-garde and experimental film.

Ever wanted to transcend space & time? Now's your chance! Join Mike Maryniuk and his blue screen wizardry over this two evening workshop, and uncover the ins and outs of shooting your own chroma key videos.
Instructor - Born in Winnipeg and raised in the rural back country of Manitoba, Mike Maryniuk is a self-taught film virtuoso, whose film world is an inventive hybrid of Jim Henson, Norman McLaren and Stan Brakhage. Maryniuk's films are a visual stew of hand-made ingredients and full of home cooked wonderfulness.
