AMAI 2012 is an immersive program designed by Video Pool to assist 4 aboriginal artists based in Manitoba, either emerging or already practicing in any discipline, with the creation of a short video or a media art piece. This initiative will provide enhanced opportunities for Aboriginal persons from northern and rural Manitoba, as well as Winnipeg residents.
AMAI 2012 is a two-level program:
Level One: Remote community or rural MB residents, who will learn to make their first video – 2 participants.
Level Two: Winnipeg residents, who will create a media art piece - some film/video experience recommended – 2 participants.
We recommend participants be between the ages 18-30.Publish
We are also looking for professional artists who are interested in being a mentor or workshop facilitators.
* Email CV/Filmography to vpoutreach@videopool.org and please indicate area of interest (mentor position OR type of workshop)
This one-month residency in Winnipeg, sponsored entirely by Video Pool, who will cover travel and accommodation, as well as provide a per diem and honorarium. The residency is split into two parts, separated by a mid-program trip home. It’s expected that by the end of the program the participants will have created a short video or media art piece. Each piece will be exhibited at a chosen venue in Winnipeg and then added to the Video Pool archive and distribution roster.
Designed as a professional development/production initiative, AMAI 2012 includes an immersive workshop series and personalized one on one mentoring to train and support each of the four recipients in the production of a short video or media art piece.
Video Pool will foster the relationship established with the four artists by submitting participant’s pieces to festivals and galleries to represent their work through exhibitions and distribution.
